About Me
- Nicole Hovdestad
- Hi! I'm Nicole, i'm from Sioux Falls, SD. During the year i stay pretty busy with sports, and i am a fan of almost every sport. But i would have to say that extreme sports are my favortie. Hanging out with my friends is a must for me and we always know how to have a good time. This summer was one of the hardest times i've ever been though but i'm hoping college is all that it's made out to be!

Last weekend fun
Last weekend i went up to the cage fights in Brookings. After a what seemed like a really long drive, we made it to the Shamerock and walked through the big windowed doors. At this point i saw my friends that i know and started to talk to them for a while. Soon the fighters were hustled up to the top room to be told how things would go down for the night and that they needed to start getting taped up so they could start the fights on time. Before the fights got started the fighters and order were annonced and then the national athem was presented. As this was being done the guy next to me was already drunk and only had two beers, but he decided that he was not going to stand or remove his hat because he was canadian. So my guy friend told him to stand up and show some respect. Well some words were exchanged between them and then they finally calmed. But this guy just didn't understand keep your mouth shut at a fight cause the people watching fights are just not ones to mess with. This guy just kept talking bad about my guy and i don't think he understood that i was going to tell him. So once the guy left to pee i confronted my friend and told him everything that was being said, so my guy friend came over and sat in the guys spot and when they guy came back he tried so hard to back his way out of the whole he had dug himself into. This guy knew he would get killed by my friend if they fought. Plus he didn't have his gf to back him up, she was the fighter of the relationship and she was one of the girl fighters of the night. (She got owned in her fight) Well my friend went back to his spot and the guy started talking bad about him and started to mock me, i looked over at him and said seriously ur drunk shut ur mouth now. Well he really didn't understand that and kept talking bad so i stood up and that got everyones attention, and i told him say one more thing about me i dare u! He just sat there and about a second later one of my guy friends grabbed me and pulled me outside to calm down and talk to me. When i went back to sit down the guy had left to watch his girl friend fight. And karma's a bitch his girl friend got owned in her fight and had to be taken to the hospital in the ambulance that had to come for her. I had so much fun at those cage fights last weekend.

Organization
I felt as though the new outline was way more helpful for me, and i was able to keep my paper a whole lot more organized. And i was able to write my paper a whole lot quicker than i usually would of had to when i just have a spider web of things as my outline. Then again it took a lot more time for me to complete this out line then when i just throw thoughs and ideas down about my other topics. But this way kept me so much more organized and should help my paper be easier to read. I really liked having the new outline to go through and have to write all my thoughts down and keep me so well organized.

Analyizing
Going back and re-reading through the stories that we have recently read in class made me see a new perspective on the stories. I can now find new hidden meaning in them to create my own persepective on what i may think the author may be trying to get at. Even though this is all new so i have a feeling i may not be doing it right, its good to give me experience before i have to go and do it for my class i may be taking next semester. Sometimes i felt as though re-reading and trying to pick out key pieces were tough and i couldn't seem to find any i was always able to at least find a few in each story. Also it helped getting together with people and looking over the stories in order to see other peoples perspectives and voice my own opinion so we could make a conclusion about things.

Symbolism
Well i found that the white in the White Herion was to symolize the purity of everything in the story. The fact that sylvia was able to not tell the hunter where the bird was even if that ment her giving up the money that he offered her. Also the symbolism of the white i also felt like was part of sylvia exploring, she has the freedom like the bird does to roam where she wants to and find new things out in the forest. Just like the hunter says that the bird usually is not found in that area typically, but the bird had the freedom to move where it wanted to and it was in that area at the time. One last thing that i found of symbolism would have to be the white representing the different types of things that sylvia is able to do, her grandma gives her the freedom to go get the cow and take on many responsibilities that her brother would have had if he would have still been there. Showing her responsibility of everything like the bird did to get away from the hunter and not be seen.

Women in the 1900's
Through out the 1900's women were gaining some equality as men, but they did not get all the same equalitly that men got. One thing they got 8 hour a day jobs with a little more pay then before, even though this put a strain because they were not able to go for jobs that required extra hours because they could only work 8 hours a day. Then again more women were entering into a college to recieve an education. But then agian they were not getting the full equality to men, such as not being able to have credit to buy a house or car. They had no control over their bodies and the working conditions were not up to the best standards. I feel as though this would be awful to live in having to be looked down on for having boobs and vagina. And the fact that i can have a child and a guy can not. Even though women are seen as weaker and not as smart their are women out their everyday proving the boys wrong and showing that they are just as good as the boys. I'm so glad that women were able to start increasing the statistics in the 1900's because they got us to have equality between men and women. Could you imagine a world with out women sports or having to play in a dress? i would die, not going to lie.
